Mark Hagland
Nationally respected independent health care journalist
Mark has been a writer, editor, researcher and public speaker in health care for over 17 years. He writes regularly for Healthcare Informatics, Healthcare Financial Management, the Journal of AHIMA, Behavioral Healthcare, Biotechnology Healthcare, AuntMinnie.com, and other prominent publications in health care.

In 1997, he was the national winner in the trade publication category of the National Institute for Health Care Management's Fourth Annual Health Care Journalism Award, for a cover story he wrote for California Medicine on the challenges of the IPA model of physician governance. And in the summer of 2007, his article, "Consumer-Directed Health Care: What to Expect and What to Do," co-written with Jeffrey C. Bauer, Ph.D., and which appeared in the July 2006 issue of Healthcare Financial Management, received the Helen Yerger/L. Vann Seawell Best Article Award for 2006/2007 from the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

In addition, he has been a part of the editorial team at Healthcare Informatics that has several times received awards from the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors for excellence in trade magazines, including in February 2003 the ASHPE Gold Award for Best Special Report/Section, for the magazine's February 2003 "Nine Tech Trends" cover package.
