With a history dedicated to research and education, Linda Chavez has proven she is not afraid to challenge the system. Her work focuses on politics and the role of Hispanics from a conservative point of view.
The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Commentary, The New Republic, and Reader's Digest have published Chavez's work, and she wrote a weekly column for USA Today. Her book, Out of the Barrio: Toward a New Politics of Hispanic Assimilation (Basic Books, 1991), explores Hispanic achievements and progress and deals with such issues as immigration, affirmative action, bilingual education, and voting rights. Chavez has also written "From Sugar Daddies to Uncle Sam." Chavez was also editor of the prize-winning quarterly journal of the American Federation of Teachers, American Educator, from 1977 to 1983.
