Mr. Califano is founding Chairman of the Board and President of The Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University--CASA--an independent non-profit research center affiliated with Columbia University in New York City.
 
Mr. Califano is an expert in health care delivery and cost containment and consults and lectures about America's health care system. He is Adjunct Professor of Public Health (Health Policy and Management) at Columbia University's Medical School (Department of Psychiatry) and School of Public Health and a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
