In every organization, winning depends on the performance of leaders and their teams. Nowhere is this more powerfully demonstrated than in the Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy’s elite precision flying team
Using Blue Angel methodology as a model, John, former lead solo pilot and Stanford Sloan Fellow, has developed a unique approach that equips others to make the same journey towards excellence.

The Blue Angels are in the top 1/10 of the top 1% of all pilots. To achieve that rare status, they relentlessly elevate their individual and collective performance. For example, they’ve closed the in-flight distance between jets from 10 feet to just 36 inches—a performance improvement of 300%.

John Foley’s presentation shows leaders in any organization how to close their team’s performance gaps—and achieve increasingly outstanding business outcomes. Audiences discover how to:

Unify their teams behind shared goals
Analyze each team effort and extract lessons for continuous improvement

Create a culture of gratitude—for co-workers, customers, and opportunities to excel
A Mighty Wall
The cover image of a figure dangling from an impossibly steep cliff implies that this is an outdoor thriller. In fact, it is a rather sensitive coming-of-age drama—with plenty of exciting rock climbing, too. Jordan works at a climbing gym and hits the crags at every opportunity. It is his all-consuming passion—until Juana enters his life. Fortunately this new-girl-in-town is also a climber, and many pages are spent describing the forays Jordan enjoys with his girlfriend, mom, and best friend. There’s no doubt Foley has done his homework; hardly a page goes by without some mention of a crampon, carabiner, or belay device. The authenticity carries over to Foley’s characters, and while the dialogue is stiff in places, the guy-centric story is appropriately laden with trash talk, vulgarisms, girls, and beer. The tragedy that ultimately unfolds informs Foley’s theme of controlling fear, and throughout it all he maintains a nice balance between action and sentiment. Grades 7-10. --Daniel Kraus
