Professor Esposito is the Director of the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding and the author of 13 books on Islam and the editor-in-chief of the four-volume Oxford Encyclopedia of the Modern Islamic World, The Oxford History of Islam (selected as a book of the month by the Book-of-the-Month Club), and the upcoming Oxford Dictionary of Islam. He is former president of the Middle East Studies Association of North America.
