Although he was not raised in a devout household, Frederick KG. Price has become a major religious leader in this country. "To be able to touch people's lives in positive ways, and to actually see positive changes in people over time is the greatest reward that I know of," he says. Throughout most of his youth, Price could have used a positive influence on his life, but it seems no one was there to give it to him.

Born in the early '30s in Southern California, Price was an only child until he was a teenager. His youth was a lonely existence in which he had to teach himself how to deal with the stress and insecurity that were a part of his everyday life. His father, a janitor and chauffeur, had a drinking problem that adversely affected the family financially as well as emotionally. Price's mother was forced to fend for herself, often leaving him alone at night for hours while she worked as a nurse in a children's hospital. "I was literally on my own," he says. "I had a roof over my head, but no companionship or support."
