
At the time of this lecture, J. Robert Kerrey was the senior U.S. Senator from the State of Nebraska. He was the
Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and was a member of the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Agriculture Committee. He was Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and had recently co-chaired of the National Commission on Restructuring the Internal Revenue Service. As well, Kerrey had been a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee from 1989 through 1996.
Since his election to the U.S. Senate, Bob Kerrey has impressed political observers with his independence, his candor, and his tireless determination to make government work. Bob Kerrey's devotion, hard work, and leadership has made him one of America's most effective political leaders. Before coming to the Senate, Kerrey served one term as Governor of the State of Nebraska from 1983 to 1987.
